We are seeking a Senior Metrologist / Lab Manager to join a growing Nashville manufacturing operation experiencing significant expansion and preparing to approximately double the size of its operations. This newly created position will provide technical leadership for site metrology and laboratory activities while supervising two hourly teams.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role with primary responsibility for the site's CMM systems, PC-DMIS programming, gauge calibration, metrology equipment, new gauge builds, equipment maintenance, and regulatory testing coordination. The successful candidate will own the site's metrology system and coordinate qualified third-party providers for calibration, repair, and specialized services.
The position works closely with the site's QMS Engineer for audit preparation and quality-system activities. Corporate Headquarters is located within the facility, providing additional technical and organizational support. The position offers potential long-term growth into international metrology responsibilities as the operation continues to expand.
Required Skills
- Hands-on CMM programming using PC-DMIS — required
- 2+ years of leadership experience as a Team Lead, Supervisor, or similar technical leadership role
- Experience with dimensional inspection and GD&T
- Experience managing gauge calibration and measurement systems
- Experience creating, maintaining, and modifying CMM programs
- Experience maintaining, repairing, or coordinating service for CMMs and other metrology equipment
- Knowledge of gauge control, measurement traceability, and calibration requirements
- Ability to supervise and coordinate two hourly teams
- Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and dimensional requirements
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to coordinate internal and third-party testing, calibration, and equipment services
Preferred Skills
- Automotive manufacturing experience
- Automotive glass manufacturing or laboratory experience
- Experience coordinating FMVSS or other regulatory testing
- Experience with Gage Trak or comparable calibration-management software
- Experience with 3D scanning and advanced metrology systems
- CAD/CAM experience
- ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 experience
- Internal Auditor certification or training
- Experience with MSA, Gage R&R, capability studies, Minitab, and statistical analysis
- Experience with gauge design, validation, and new gauge builds
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Own site metrology operations, including CMM programming in PC-DMIS, dimensional inspection, GD&T, gauge validation, and new gauge builds.
- Manage the gauge calibration system, including traceability, maintenance, repairs, records, and third-party calibration services.
- Supervise two hourly teams, including scheduling, training, coaching, and daily work assignments.
- Coordinate FMVSS and other regulatory testing, ensuring appropriate personnel, equipment, and schedules are in place.
- Maintain CMMs, gauges, and laboratory equipment; coordinate outside technical support when needed.
- Apply CAD/CAM and SolidWorks to support gauge design and manufacturing requirements.
- Partner with the QMS Engineer on audits, quality-system requirements, and documentation.
- Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production to resolve measurement issues and improve processes.
- Support the site's expanding metrology capabilities and future international metrology activities.

- Calibration performance: No overdue critical calibrations and complete, traceable calibration records.
- Equipment uptime: CMMs and critical metrology equipment are available when required, with issues addressed promptly.
