Job summary

QFocus Technologies LLC in Austin, TX, is seeking a Metrology Engineer to develop test methods and procedures to determine dimensional features of products and to validate production inspections across manufacturing and assembly processes.

You will apply ISO/ASME GD&T, program and troubleshoot CMM and CT scanners, and lead measurement program development with quality and program management teams. Data integrity and continuous improvement are central to the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years supporting metrology equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting automation in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret layouts and drawings using GD&T to verify component features.
  • Develop measurement methods and equipment to ensure conformance to design features.
  • Program and troubleshoot CMM, vision systems, and CT scanners.
  • Lead test method qualification activities with QE and PM teams.
  • Train technicians on CMM, vision systems, and CT scanner operation.

Job description

The Metrology Engineer will be responsible for the development of test methods and procedures needed to determine the dimensional features of products, validation and production inspections of all products produced from manufacturing and assembly processes.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize knowledge of ISO/ASME GD&T to interpret engineering layouts, drawings and documentation of various levels of components, assemblies and subassemblies using CAD systems (i.e., AutoCAD, Solidworks, Orcad).
  • Develop and use measurement methods and equipment to determine whether the dimension features of products conform to the design features.
  • Program and use CMM, Vision systems, CT Scanner and form tracking systems.
  • Troubleshoot CMM and CT Scanner programs and system malfunctions.
  • Manage test method equipment qualification activities in conjunction with Quality Engineering and Program Management functions.
  • Develop measurement programs for use by quality inspectors and production personnel.
  • Aid in the selection and management of fixture, program and equipment suppliers.
  • Direct the workers engaged in measuring and testing products and tabulating data concerning materials, product or process quality and reliability.
  • Interact routine­ly with customers to develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation.
  • Perform inspection and testing of molded components and assemblies for conformance to design and configuration requirements.
  • Utilize inspection measurement tools (i.e., micrometers, calipers, drop indicators, thread gauges, plug gauges, comparators, height gages, gage blocks etc.).
  • Optimize inspection methods to expedite inspections and manage equipment capacity.
  • Train colleagues/technicians/inspectors on vision system (i.e., OGP), Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) and CT Scanner operation for parts being run on the production floor.
  • Perform workmanship evaluations on plastic parts (flash, damage, discoloration, contamination etc.) using microscopes.
  • Compile and analyze measurement data and statistics to assess measurement methods and process capability.
  • Perform Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GRR) studies to evaluate measurement methods.
  • Ensure data availability and integrity of all quality-related data.
  • Consolidate and report quality results.
Other Activities/Functions
  • Work closely with metrology technicians, production personnel, engineering and other colleagues to diagnose and resolve operational issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to metrology technicians during troubleshooting and repair activities.
  • Develop troubleshooting procedures, and standard work and training materials.
  • Participate in shift support initiatives and escalation processes for critical manufacturing equipment.
  • Review machine downtime events and partner with technicians to identify long-term corrective actions.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation systems for tracking and traceability purposes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product/Mechanical (fixture, etc.) Design or any related technical discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting metrology equipment.
  • Experience in troubleshooting automation systems in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline such as Mechanical or Industrial engineering.
  • Experience in medical devices, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in Minitab, SPC Gage R & R (GRR).
  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
