Job summary

KWES/News West 9, part of TEGNA Inc., seeks a dynamic Chief Meteorologist to lead the Midland-Odessa weather team and oversee all forecasting and weather graphics for TV, digital and social platforms.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in meteorology with AMS certification and 3–5 years on-air leadership experience, plus top communication skills. Collaboration with News Director and community outreach are key components of the position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in meteorology and AMS Certification are required.
• Minimum 3-5 years of on-air experience with leadership exposure.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to work under pressure.
• Proficiency with multiplatform news gathering and social media tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the weather team and set strategic direction for weather coverage.
• Deliver engaging daily weathercasts across on-air and digital platforms.
• Supervise schedules and mentor weather staff.
• Collaborate on severe weather coverage and community outreach.
• Recruiting and hiring support for the weather team.
• Develop original weather content and adopt new graphics tech.
