Job summary

Barnes & Noble Education seeks a Sr. Merchandise Manager to lead end-to-end merchandising across assigned categories at our Florham Park, NJ headquarters.

This role drives category strategy, financial planning, assortment development, and vendor partnerships, leading a team of Buyers and Assistant Buyers to maximize sales, margin, and customer engagement. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Retail Management, Marketing, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Eight to ten years of progressive merchandising, buying, or category management experience within an omnichannel retail environment.
• Demonstrated success developing and executing merchandise strategies that drive sales growth, profitability, inventory productivity, and customer engagement.
• Experience managing General Merchandise and/or Hardgoods categories preferred.
• Strong financial, analytical, and strategic business acumen with the ability to interpret data and drive profitable decisions.
• Proven leadership experience coaching and developing high-performing teams and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own the overall business strategy and financial performance for assigned merchandise categories.
• Develop and execute merchandise strategies, seasonal assortments, pricing, promotional, and go-to-market plans.
• Lead development of assortments across channels, store formats, regions, and price tiers.
• Analyze insights, sales trends, and market intelligence to identify opportunities and demand.
• Partner with planning to develop seasonal financial plans and inventory strategies.
• Drive inventory management through assortment planning, pricing, promotions, and markdowns.
• Monitor performance and adjust strategies to meet financial objectives.
• Develop and maintain strategic vendor partnerships and negotiate agreements.
