Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is seeking a Department Manager in General Merchandise to lead daily selling-floor operations, ensuring merchandise availability and maintaining appealing displays while delivering outstanding customer service to students, faculty, and staff.

You will supervise a team, coordinate with store leadership, and use department technologies to answer questions, place orders, and manage inventory, with a focus on flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' experience in a retail setting as a manager or buyer preferred or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
• High school diploma/GED required.
• Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
• Basic reading, writing and accounting skills required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily activities of the selling floor to ensure the appeal of displays and availability of merchandise.
• Greet customers, answer questions, recommend products, help locate or obtain materials, and guide team members on shifts.
• Use department technology (CORE or Intrepid) to answer questions, place orders, locate items, search inventory, or meet customer needs.
• Maintain an appealing and clean sales floor using planogram or guidelines.
• Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.
• Full-time positions require availability to work at least 30 hours weekly year-round.
