Job summary

BARNES & NOBLE EDUCATION in Florham Park, NJ is seeking a Sr. Merchandise Manager to lead end-to-end merchandising across assigned categories, driving growth, profitability, and customer engagement.

You will manage a team of Buyers and Assistant Buyers and partner across Marketing, Digital Commerce, Store Operations, and Finance to execute strategic assortments, pricing, promotions, and inventory plans for omnichannel retail.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Retail Management, Marketing, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Eight to ten years of progressive merchandising, buying, or category management experience within an omnichannel retail environment.
• Demonstrated success developing and executing merchandise strategies that drive sales growth, profitability, inventory productivity, and customer engagement.
• Experience managing General Merchandise and/or Hardgoods categories preferred.
• Strong financial, analytical, and strategic business acumen with the ability to interpret data and drive profitable decisions.
• Proven leadership to coach and develop high-performing teams and collaborate cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Own the overall business strategy and financial performance for assigned merchandise categories.
• Develop and execute merchandise strategies, seasonal assortments, pricing, and go-to-market plans.
• Lead development of assortments across channels and regions to maximize engagement and performance.
• Analyze sales trends, market intelligence, and customer insights to guide decisions.
• Partner with Merchandising Planning to develop seasonal forecasts and inventory strategies.
• Drive inventory management, pricing strategies, promotions, and markdown optimization.
• Monitor performance and adjust strategies to meet objectives.
• Build strategic vendor partnerships and negotiate commercial agreements.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with Marketing, Digital Commerce, Store Ops, Finance, and others.
• Coach and develop a high-performing team of Buyers and Assistant Buyers.
