Job description

An elite, nationally recognized General Contractor is seeking a Senior MEP Superintendent to lead the execution of Mechanical and Electrical systems on major construction projects in the Dallas market.

This is a senior field leadership opportunity for an experienced MEP professional who understands that successful MEP delivery requires more than managing subcontractors. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, commissioning, and turning over complex mechanical and electrical systems while maintaining the highest standards for safety, quality, schedule, and budget.

The successful candidate will serve as a key liaison between the project team, MEP engineers, design consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, owners, and other stakeholders.

THE ROLE

As Senior MEP Superintendent, you will lead all MEP field activities from procurement and engineering through coordination, installation, startup, testing, commissioning, closeout, and turnover.

You will work closely with the Superintendent, Project Manager, MEP Manager, and MEP Engineer while providing leadership and mentorship to MEP Superintendents and Assistant MEP Superintendents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and coordinate the execution of all Mechanical and Electrical field activities.
  • Develop comprehensive MEP schedules covering engineering, coordination, procurement, installation, startup, testing, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Monitor progress against the project schedule and proactively address potential delays.
  • Lead the MEP phases of the project and resolve complex field and coordination issues.
  • Serve as the primary field liaison with engineers, design consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, owners, and project staff.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop MEP Superintendents and Assistant MEP Superintendents.
  • Identify logistical and constructability issues early and coordinate pre-planned solutions.
  • Develop scopes of work and clearly establish divisions of responsibility between trades.
  • Ensure MEP work is executed in accordance with contract documents, approved submittals, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Pre-plan field activities to ensure work areas are ready and properly sequenced.
  • Monitor manpower loading and allocation to ensure resources remain focused on project priorities.
  • Track installation progress and manpower productivity throughout the project.
  • Develop solutions for conflicts between mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, and other building systems.
  • Evaluate subcontractor payment requisitions with an understanding of remaining manpower, funds, and work requirements.
  • Identify difficult installation requirements early enough to allow proper planning and execution.
  • Co-lead the overall MEP turnover process, including startup, testing, commissioning, closeout, and owner turnover.
  • Co-develop and implement the project MEP quality control plan with the MEP Engineer.
  • Present MEP plans, schedules, progress, and status updates confidently to senior leadership, owners, and subcontractors.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of relevant experience involving mechanical and electrical systems in complex construction environments.

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and field experience.

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Extensive technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems.
  • Strong understanding of how MEP systems interact and integrate with other trades.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale MEP construction activities.
  • Strong knowledge of project scheduling, manpower planning, coordination, and commissioning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to plan and manage complex scopes.
  • Ability to lead and develop high-performing field teams.
  • Confidence communicating with senior executives, owners, engineers, and subcontractors.
MECHANICAL EXPERTISE

For candidates with a mechanical background, advanced knowledge of central plants, heating plants, HVAC systems, and air distribution is highly valued.

ELECTRICAL EXPERTISE

For candidates with an electrical background, advanced knowledge of power distribution, UPS and emergency power systems, and low-voltage systems is highly valued.

WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY?

This is an opportunity to join a best-in-class General Contractor where MEP leadership is a critical component of project success.

You will be entrusted with significant responsibility and will work on sophisticated projects involving complex building systems, demanding schedules, and high-profile clients.

The company offers:
  • Performance-based bonus opportunity
  • Long-term career advancement
  • Professional development and training
  • The opportunity to work with some of the industry's most experienced construction professionals
  • Exposure to highly complex and technically demanding projects
THE RIGHT CANDIDATE

We are looking for a field leader—not simply an MEP coordinator.

The ideal candidate can walk onto a complex project, understand the MEP systems, recognize potential problems before they become schedule issues, mobilize the appropriate resources, coordinate multiple stakeholders, and drive the project through successful commissioning and turnover.

If you have the technical expertise, field leadership, communication skills, and executive presence to lead MEP execution for an elite General Contractor, this is an opportunity worth exploring.

Experience: 10+ years relevant MEP experience
