Job summary

Gilder Search Group is seeking a Data Center MEP Superintendent for a Dallas, TX project with possible remote TX aspects. The role oversees field activities for electrical, mechanical, and control subcontractors, ensuring on-site execution, budget adherence, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include leading MEP field teams, coordinating with project managers, and ensuring startup, commissioning, and proper handover to the client.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of data center/critical facilities MEP construction experience.
  • Experience with a General Contractor or Trade environments.
  • Strong understanding of Mechanical and Electrical systems and troubleshooting.
  • Experience directing commissioning efforts and managing change orders.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain liaison with client, A/E firm, Owner’s Rep, and subcontractors to facilitate activities at the data center site.
  • Lead critical MEP field work and coordinate with project manager and subcontractors for proper execution.
  • Ensure equipment is on site; monitor progress to meet schedule and budget.
  • Provide safety, quality control, and risk management through established programs.
  • Lead weekly progress and safety meetings with subcontractors and owner’s rep.
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of MEP systems including startup and commissioning.
  • Oversee vendor management for installation, commissioning, and energization of systems.
  • Ensure project closeout, demobilization, and client transition.
  • Maintain secure site and professional work environment at all times.

Data Center MEP Superintendent – Dallas TX / Remote TX

This opportunity is with a leading general contractor of data center construction services. The MEP Superintendent will be responsible for field activities associated with the project, including supervision of all field construction work by electrical, mechanical, and controls subcontractors / trades and self‑performed work. The role requires constant communication with subcontractors to ensure timely work and keep the project on schedule and within budget. The superintendent ensures equipment is on site when needed, shares responsibility for budgeting with the construction project manager, mentors assistant supervisors and coordinators, and maintains a relentless focus on meeting and exceeding customer needs and expectations throughout the life of the project.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain liaison with primary client, A/E firm, Owner’s Rep firm, Construction Project Manager, subcontractors, and other vendors needed to facilitate construction activities at the data center job site
  • Establish and manage the critical work environment and project objectives, performance standards, planning, and Methods of Procedure to minimize human error and reduce downtime
  • Provide leadership of all field-related MEP mission‑critical work activities and coordinate with Construction Project Manager and subcontractors for proper execution
  • Keep all relative parties informed of progress throughout the life of the project
  • Have detailed understanding of all MEP systems to include sizing, costs, scheduling, quality control focus points, system start‑up, commissioning, and troubleshooting
  • Manage vendors to ensure equipment is properly installed and commissioned, including electrical, mechanical, and control systems integration and energization
  • Ensure project site and company assets are secure and maintain a safe and respectful work environment at all times by implementing programs for safety/OSHA, EEO, risk management, training, and quality control
  • Confirm that extra charges from subcontractors/suppliers are reasonable and that work is correctly executed; coordinate with the project manager for approval of extra charges
  • Facilitate weekly project progress and safety meetings with all subcontractor representatives and coordinate the upcoming week’s work; attend all progress meetings with the owner’s rep/data center construction Project Manager
  • Ensure that the project closeout process is finalized, demobilize all resources, and transition the project to the client
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of data center/critical facilities MEP construction experience (project size, scope, and complexity factored into experience required)
  • Experience working for a General Contractor or Trade
  • Detailed understanding of Mechanical and Electrical systems including integrated testing, MOPs/SOPs of installation, functionality, and troubleshooting
  • Experience directing and/or supporting commissioning efforts
  • Willingness to travel/re‑locate – must be onsite Monday through Friday for the duration of the project
  • Demonstrates solid presentation, verbal, written, and communication skills
  • Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project, Timberline, etc.)
  • Previous administrative experience managing change orders, billing, creating reports, etc.
  • Previous experience in the Military/Military Veterans is a huge plus (experience with Electrical/Mechanical Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, etc.)
