Job summary

AECOM is seeking an MEP Cost Manager and Estimator to support multiple projects from concept through construction. The role requires deep mechanical expertise and broad MEP experience to manage cost, scope, and value across trades.

You will develop budgets, perform quantity take-offs, and coordinate pricing with subcontractors while guiding design teams on feasibility and constructability. Hybrid work in Boston is available.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Experience in MEP estimating in the construction industry with a focus on cost consultancy.
• Demonstrated experience across MEP trades and coordinating across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed, accurate quantity take-offs for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems across all design stages, from conceptual design through construction documentation.
• Develop conceptual budgets, cost plans, and parametric models using limited design information, historical data, and market benchmarks.
• Develop estimate assemblies comprised of labor, material and equipment detail.
• Solicit, level, and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing to ensure competitive and complete coverage.
• Perform scope gap analyses to identify omissions and ensure full system coverage.
• Evaluate and propose cost-effective alternatives for materials, equipment, and construction methodologies to support value management initiatives.
• Partner closely with architectural, civil, and structural estimating teams to identify design gaps, coordination issues, constructability concerns, and market risks.
• Utilize industry-standard tools (CostX, OST, Bluebeam, Revit/BIM models, MII, PACES) for quantity extraction, analysis, and coordination.
• Lead estimate reconciliation discussions with clients, design teams, and construction managers, clearly articulating assumptions, variances, and risks.
• Review, analyze, and validate MEP-related change orders and cost impacts during construction
• Provide expert guidance on cost, scope interpretation, and market conditions throughout project delivery.
