Job summary

Elyria Foundry|Hodge Foundry is seeking a dedicated melt shop operator for full-time, night-shift work in Elyria, OH. Training on all shifts will occur; you’ll learn furnace loading, temperature control, alloying and quality checks.

Responsibilities include operating furnaces, performing chemical analyses, maintaining temperature specs, and collaboration with the manufacturing team to ensure conformity. Must be 18+, with 5+ years melt shop experience and safety oriented.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old with a HS Diploma / GED or equivalent.
• At least 5 years’ experience in a Melt Shop type environment is REQUIRED.
• Experience operating a heavy load overhead crane and/or remote crane.
• Ability to drive mobile equipment as needed.
• Willing to work in all areas of the Melt shop: Training will occur on each shift, flexibility for this is required.
• After training is completed, you will be working on 3 rd shift starting at ~ 9pm
• Leadership experience is preferred, potential to be a Team Lead
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses and maintenance as well as using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
• Experience inspecting equipment, structures or materials to identify the cause of errors or defects.
• Ability to work in and around extreme heat.
• Safety orientated.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate and load furnaces with scrap iron utilizing overhead crane to a specified temperature for processing.
• Perform chemical analysis and make necessary adjustments to meet required specifications.
• Monitor and regulate temperature controls and heating time.
• Identify, measure and add alloys to ladle iron pouring preparation.
• Observe and adjust controls to maintain temperature between specified limits.
• Communicate with production team regarding proper temperature of iron.
• Collaborate with the manufacturing team to ensure production conformity.
• Repairs and maintains ladles in use in the melt shop.
• Perform other duties as required.
