Job summary

Highmark Health seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist to independently perform routines and complex analyses on clinical specimens in one or more sections of the laboratory in Pittsburgh. The role supports daily operations and may mentor staff as needed.

The candidate should have an ASCP-eligible Bachelor's degree (or HEW), MLS/MT certification within a year, and 3–5 years of clinical laboratory experience, with supervisory experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in ASCP eligible program or successful completion of HEW exam.
• MLS or MT certification within one year of hire.
• Incumbents employed as AHN Medical Technologists prior to 6/1/2022 are exempt from this requirement.
• 3 to 5 years of clinical laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens using established criteria.
• Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and linearity for test methods.
• Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation; troubleshoots QC issues to ensure quality results.
• Serves as a consultant to laboratory personnel and other healthcare providers; participates in ongoing education.
• May collect/process patient specimens according to policies and timeframes.
• May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy, and lab processor students and new hires according to AHN policies.
• Communicates with manager/supervisors regarding supplies and needs for efficient operations.
• Assumes supervisory duties in the absence of the supervisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
