Quest Diagnostics in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist II to perform moderate to high complexity testing on a rotating schedule (10:45 PM–7:15 AM). The role requires independent judgment, QC oversight, instrument troubleshooting, and adherence to SOPs and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• One year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Preferred: minimum 3 years clinical experience with most current year in present department.
• BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology; 42 CFR 493.1433 qualification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Proficient in testing and troubleshooting instruments/procedures.
• Support quality control, troubleshooting, maintenance, training, and process improvement.
• Perform and report analytical tests per SOPs and QC requirements.
• Adhere to specimen handling, processing, analysis, and record-keeping procedures.
• Maintain turnaround times including STATs/critical results.
• Manage reagents/test kit received dates and expirations.
• Perform and document QC analyses and make QC decisions.
• Inform supervisors of problems with test procedures.
• Report deviations and cooperate with investigations.
• Enter results into LIS for standardized physician reports.
• Maintain safe, functional lab spaces and equipment.
• Complete training and competency checklists; train others as needed.
• Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and safety requirements.
• Use PPE and controls as directed.
