Job summary

San Gabriel Valley Medical Center is seeking a HIM Coding Specialist II to ensure accurate coding of patient records, maintain privacy, and support departmental accuracy. The role requires familiarity with ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT conventions, plus collaboration with auditors and case managers.

The candidate must have at least four years of hospital coding experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and strong English communication skills with professional conduct and system proficiency.

Qualifications

• Requires a minimum of four years coding experience in a hospital Health Information Management Department.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Specialized training: strong communication, English reading/writing, computer literacy, tact and diplomacy.

Responsibilities

• Accurately reviews records flagged by SMART and other reviews.
• Ensures charts are coded within bill hold limits.
• Collaborates with outside auditors and consultants to ensure coding quality.
• Code inpatient and outpatient charts with ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM, CPT per guidelines.
• Protect patient privacy and ensure HIPAA compliance at all times.
