Job summary

San Gabriel Valley Medical Center is seeking a HIM Coding Specialist II to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, chart abstraction in Evident/Thrive, and timely completion within bill hold limits. The role collaborates with the HIM Director, coders, and external auditors to maintain coding quality and privacy compliance.

Experience in hospital HIM coding and AHIMA credentials are highly valued; patient information must be protected per HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of four years hospital HIM coding experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• AHIMA credentials (CCS, RHIT, RHIA) are preferred or required.
• AHMC Coding Examination score of 95% required.

Responsibilities

• Review records flagged by SMART and reviews as required.
• Code inpatient and outpatient charts accurately per guidelines.
• Prepare and maintain coding and productivity reports.
• Educate and train coding staff as needed.
• Collaborate with auditors and consultants to ensure coding quality.
