Job summary

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is seeking an experienced Medical Coder for hospital-based coding. You will review clinical documentation, apply ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, and ensure accurate capture for inpatient services.

Qualifications include a CCS credential, at least five years of inpatient coding experience in acute care, and completion of a CAHIM-accredited HIT program or coding certificate. Hoag emphasizes accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a certified coding program or CAHIM accredited HIT program required.
• Five years of progressive inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility.

Responsibilities

• The coder reviews clinical documentation and diagnostic results and applies ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS to support diagnoses, procedures, and treatment results.
• Verifies that all ICD-10-CM codes are correctly captured.
• Verify that physician is correctly abstracted.
• Keeps abreast of coding guideline changes by self-study, education, or in-services.
• Participates in quality review meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
