Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP in Richmond, VA seeks an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to oversee design and construction administration for varied projects. You will lead mechanical analysis, energy studies and technical detailing within a collaborative design team.

The role requires 11–15 years of mechanical engineering experience, ABET‑accredited education, and a Virginia PE (or ability to obtain in 6 months). US citizenship is required. Salary range: $140k–$215k.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 11–15 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in consulting.
• PE license in Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Experience with DX packaged systems, hydronic, chilled water and plumbing.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit and HVAC design software.
• Familiarity with codes and sustainable design practices.
• Excellent coordination, communication and problem-solving abilities.
• US Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Develop construction documentation—plans, sections, schedules, details, specifications.
• Perform energy analysis, life-cycle cost studies and design reviews.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders for seamless execution.
• Develop control strategies, calculations and system concepts.
• Mentor junior engineers and support professional growth.
