Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP in Richmond, VA seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Design Group. You will design and implement mechanical systems for diverse projects, from concept development to construction oversight, delivering sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions.

The role emphasizes collaboration across disciplines, mentorship of junior staff, and the creation of robust documentation and analyses to support project success.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (master’s preferred).
• 5–10 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in the consulting industry.
• Professional Engineer license in the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop plans, sections, schedules, details, controls, costs and specifications.
• Select mechanical systems to meet project requirements for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Perform energy and life-cycle cost analysis for design decisions.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers and other stakeholders.
• Mentor junior staff and oversee their work.
