Job summary

Rivian in Carson, CA seeks a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to act as a technical authority and people leader for the mechanical development of next‑generation traction inverter systems. You will own end‑to‑end mechanical architecture of critical subsystems, manage a team, and drive supplier strategy and engineering standards across Power Electronics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 8+ years in development and packaging of Power Electronics assemblies.
• High-level proficiency in CATIA V5 or V6 (3DEXPERIENCE).
• Experience with high-pressure die casting, injection molding and sheet metal at production scale.
• Deep expertise in HV/LV busbar design, harness routing and sealing systems.
• Experience with joining technologies: laser welding, press-fit, soldering, TIM.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage and develop a team of mechanical engineers with clear goals.
• Define team structure, workload, and hiring needs with leadership.
• Lead mechanical architecture for traction inverter assemblies from concept to production.
• Own mechanical design standards, guidelines, and DSM across Power Electronics.
• Lead architecture reviews and gate decisions for scalable, manufacturable solutions.
• Design subsystems including die casts, plastics, busbars, sheet metal, PCBA integration.
• Own ENOVIA release cycles, data integrity, BOM accuracy across programs.
• Drive weekly supplier tech reviews; enforce DFM and delivery commitments.
• Serve as escalation point for supply chain on critical issues.
• Support DV test plans and regulatory compliance documentation.
