Job summary

Rivian is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to lead the development of electronic hardware components, including infotainment and sensor modules for EVs. You will collaborate with multiple teams to optimize ergonomics, manufacturability, and design, while guiding thermal and structural analyses.

The role requires 5+ years in automotive or related industries, a BS in mechanical engineering, and strong CAD skills (Catia V5/V6/3DX).

Qualifications

• 5+ years industry experience in automotive or related fields (electronics, aerospace, etc.)
• BS in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• Experience with mechanism, thermal design, PCB integration, sensor integration, UI/UX considerations
• Experience solving grounding, EMC and antenna challenges
• Experience leading cross-functional teams
• Proficient CAD designer in Catia V5/V6/3DX with advanced surfacing
• Strong problem solving and communication skills
• Lead GD&T to ASME Y14.5 for worst-case tolerance analysis
• Knowledge of manufacturing methods including sheet metal, molding, CNC
• Experience in EV systems and DFMEA

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical development of infotainment and sensor modules within the electrical hardware team.
• Define mechanical requirements and perform trade studies for ergonomics, manufacturing, and design.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams to evaluate change impacts and needs.
• Guide thermal and FEA studies to optimize component designs in vehicles.
• Apply first principles to identify and solve issues with scientific methods.
• Coordinate PCB layout, enclosure and thermal design with electrical teams.
• Develop mechanical functional requirements for custom, semi-custom, and off-the-shelf parts.
• Consider UI/UX, EMC, serviceability, manufacturability, thermal, durability, NVH, ingress, and mounting.
• Create component design verification plans to deliver low mass, low cost, durable parts.
• Perform other duties as required within the role scope.
