Job summary

Jacobs seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead to shape and deliver high‑impact building systems projects. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, set technical direction, and drive design excellence across HVAC, central utility and building systems from concept to construction.

You will apply extensive experience in higher education, life sciences, corporate facilities, and advanced manufacturing, interfacing with executive clients and contributing to business development.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering.
• PE registration required; PA registration through comity or ability to obtain.
• 15+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in building systems.
• Experience leading engineers on large, complex projects.
• Extensive HVAC and mechanical systems design for HE, Life Sciences, Corporate Commercial.
• Strong knowledge of ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, IBC, and energy codes.
• Proven ability to lead teams and interface with executive clients.
• Proficiency with BIM and digital design workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead mechanical engineer and technical authority on complex building projects.
• Set design approaches, engineering strategies, and standards for quality deliverables.
• Lead HVAC, central utility, mechanical systems from concept through construction.
• Direct calculations, analyses, system selection, and design decisions.
• Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Conduct design reviews and QA to ensure code compliance and client expectations.
• Mentor engineers and designers through coaching and knowledge sharing.
• Represent the firm to clients, advising on engineering solutions and industry best practices.
• Support business development through proposals, presentations, and client meetings.
• Collaborate with regional and national leaders to advance practices and consistency.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and sustainability strategies for better outcomes.
• Represent Jacobs in the Mid-Atlantic markets through industry engagement.
• Engage in professional organizations and industry associations.
