Food Tech - Senior Mechanical/HVAC Design Engineer

Food Tech is a design-build firm specializing in planning, designing, and constructing food plants across the country. We focus on food process plants and cold-storage warehouses for food processors, distributors, retailers, wholesalers, and more.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical/HVAC Design Engineer with experience in industrial and commercial facility design, ideally with knowledge of food production environments. Key expertise should include hygienic design principles, refrigeration, compressed gas, boiler/steam, glycol, heat recovery, and process waste systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Lead mechanical system design development and coordinate with team members.
2. Prepare or oversee the development of mechanical, plumbing, and utility drawings and specifications.
3. Size and specify HVAC, plumbing, and utility equipment.
4. Perform building heat load calculations for HVAC equipment selection.
5. Have working knowledge of steam and hydronic systems.
6. Understand mechanical system controls, sequences of operations, and P&ID diagrams.
7. Conduct design reviews and participate in estimating processes.
8. Collaborate with fire protection design teams and evaluate proposals.
9. Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and conduct field visits.
10. Supervise supporting engineers and drafters.
11. Support talent development within the mechanical group.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills, team-oriented attitude, and ability to multi-task.
• Proficiency in Building Load Estimating software, Revit, BIM platforms, and MS Office.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• PE licensure.
• 10+ years relevant experience, preferably in food production or sanitary environments.
• Willingness to travel 15-25% to project sites.
