As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will play a key role in designing custom fixtures and complex tooling systems. Working with minimal supervision, you will transform customer concepts into detailed 3D and 2D models using NX and other leading design software. You will ensure that designs meet technical specifications, industry standards, and push the boundaries of manufacturing innovation and plant layout validation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design custom fixtures independently, ensuring solutions are innovative and practical.
• Develop complex tooling from scratch, including clamps, pin units, slides, dumps, and compound units.
• Interpret customer documentation, including GD&T, weld files, and technical specifications.
• Check and validate 3D and 2D drawings for accuracy and standard compliance.
• Create Request for Wiring Diagrams (RWDs) and supporting documentation for project approval.
• Develop comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing.
• Layout and detail complex tooling designs, ensuring components meet specifications.
• Identify non-design practices, recommend improvements to enhance design integrity.
• Perform engineering calculations to verify design safety and integrity.
• Quality & Compliance Checks:
  • Understand tolerances, material usage, and MIG weld torch angles for clearance.
  • Ensure file attributes meet criteria for tool release into ERP.
  • Use latest file check and design assist programs to maintain quality.
  • Create component buyoff sheets for thorough vetting.
• Mentor and assist team members, fostering collaboration and growth.

Qualifications:

• Educational: High School Diploma or GED; additional technical certifications preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years in mechanical design within an automation environment, with experience in Body-In-White weld fixtures (Resistance or MIG welding fixtures).
• Technical Skills:
  • Advanced proficiency with NX software.
  • Experience with CATIA or Inventor is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and plant layout validation.
  • Proficient in creating detailed 3D models, layouts, and drawings.
  • Familiar with safety and ergonomic standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and validate designs.
