Job summary

Iris Technology in Irvine, CA is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager / Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the Mechanical Engineering team 80% and provide senior technical leadership across design, development, integration, and testing of mechanical systems.

The role includes mentoring engineers, managing programs, coordinating with Program Management and customers, ensuring quality, cost, and schedule targets, and delivering robust, flight/military-grade hardware where applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing, and/or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in a technical, R&D, or manufacturing environment.
• Experience leading technical projects with schedules, budgets, and resources.
• Ability to lead and develop a mechanical engineering team in a matrix organization.
• Expertise in mechanical design, development, analysis, and integration.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and 2D/3D drawing practices, GD&T, and DFM.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Mechanical Engineering team in design, development, integration, and testing of systems.
• Act as functional manager, coordinating resources and assigning engineers to programs.
• Mentor engineers, provide design guidance, and support professional development.
• Approve timecards, manage budget and resources, and monitor program performance.
• Plan and track technical performance, requirements, and deliverables with cross-functional teams.
• Prepare detailed mechanical designs, drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Ensure compliance with military standards and AS9100 requirements.
