IRIS TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager / Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical engineering function in Irvine, CA. The role blends 80% leadership with hands-on technical work, guiding design, development, and testing of mechanical systems for mission-critical programs.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in aerospace/defense hardware, extensive SolidWorks experience, and a proven ability to manage programs, budgets, and cross‑functional

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in tech, R&D, or manufacturing.
• Proven experience leading technical projects with budgets and schedules.
• Ability to lead a mechanical engineering team in a matrix organization.
• Expertise in mechanical design, development, analysis, and integration.
• CAD proficiency, SolidWorks preferred, with 2D/3D drawings.
• Configuration management and DFM, GD&T, tolerancing.
• Ability to read electrical/mechanical drawings and work cross-functionally.
• Experience with customer interactions and relationships.
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project).

Responsibilities

• Lead the Mechanical Engineering team in design, development, integration, and testing.
• Coordinate resources within Iris Technology’s matrix organization.
• Provide mentorship and professional development to engineers.
• Approve biweekly timecards and manage resources.
• Plan and monitor technical performance of programs including budgets and schedules.
• Prepare detailed mechanical designs using SolidWorks with 2D/3D drawings.
• Ensure designs meet customer requirements, quality, cost, and schedules.
• Identify risks and implement contingency plans.
• Support proposal efforts with technical input and execution considerations.
• Present technical data reports and design reviews to customers.
