Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. in Pottstown, PA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to join a team developing next‑gen UAV systems and subsystems. You will design mechanical, electro‑mechanical, and payload systems, perform thermal analyses, develop prototypes, and create tooling and fixtures for testing and production.

The role emphasizes hands‑on prototyping, CAD deliverables, and collaboration with project managers and suppliers to meet schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of experience designing complex mechanical systems
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is required
• Hands-on building/prototyping experience for lightweight robotic systems or similar
• Experience designing electro-mechanical systems with thermodynamic constraints

Responsibilities

• Designs structural components, electro-mechanical design, payload mechanical design, ground equipment mechanical design, launching systems, flight control actuators integration, thermal analysis and prototype hardware development
• Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and reports; assists project managers with planning and scheduling
• Develops manufacturing drawings and BOMs for components and assemblies using industry standards
• Researches customer proposals to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications
• Supports design reviews and assists manufacturing & suppliers with production of components & assemblies
