Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. in California is seeking a Senior Engineer – Mechanical Engineering to design, install, modify, analyze and test tools, engines and UAV subsystems.

This role covers concept through detailed design, including building and testing hardware. Responsibilities include designing structural and electro-mechanical components, payloads, ground equipment and launch systems; performing thermal analysis; developing drawings and BOMs; and supporting design reviews and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of experience designing complex mechanical systems with demonstrated transition to hardware.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is required or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Experience in designing machined parts, composite parts, plastic injection molded parts, sheet metal parts, wire assemblies, mechanical assemblies.
• Hands-on building/prototyping experience for lightweight miniature robotic systems or similar.
• Experience designing electro-mechanical systems with thermodynamic constraints.
• Competence in mechanical engineering processes and design/analysis tools.
• Proven experience creating engineering drawings compliant with ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, and related standards; proficient in SolidWorks and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Designs structural components and electro-mechanical systems.
• Designs payload mechanical and ground equipment.
• Integrates flight control actuators and launch systems.
• Performs thermal analysis and prototypes hardware.
• Develops manufacturing drawings and BOMs for components and assemblies.
• Interprets blueprints, drawings, schematics and reports; supports project planning.
• Supports design reviews and coordinates with manufacturing and suppliers.
