Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• 5-8 years designing complex mechanical systems with hardware experience.
• Experience designing machined, composite, injection molded, sheet metal parts and assemblies.
• Hands-on building/prototyping lightweight robotic systems.
• Experience in electro-mechanical systems with thermodynamic constraints.
• Proficient in engineering drawing practices and ASME Y14 standards; SolidWorks and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Designs structural components, electro-mechanical design, payload mechanical design, ground equipment mechanical design, launching systems, flight control actuators integration, thermal analysis, prototype hardware development, tooling and fixtures design.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and reports; assists project managers with planning and scheduling of engineering work.
• Confers with engineers to implement procedures, resolve malfunctions, and provide technical information.
• Develop manufacturing drawings and BOMs for components and assemblies using industry drafting standards.
• Researches customer design proposals and data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements.
• Support design reviews, assist project managers with planning/scheduling, and support manufacturing & suppliers with production of components.
• Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways; completes tasks within schedule and budget.
• Demonstrates understanding of specialization; can re-engineer to propose alternate solutions for complex issues.
• Works on problems of diverse scope; makes decisions impacting costs and schedule; provides guidance to lower level engineers.
