Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, test, and integrate mechanical subsystems for next‑gen UAV platforms. You will lead electro‑mechanical design, create manufacturing drawings, and collaborate across teams to ensure design feasibility, cost efficiency, and timely delivery.

The role requires hands‑on prototyping experience, proficiency with SolidWorks, and a strong grasp of ASME drawing practices.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of experience designing complex mechanical systems with hardware transition.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required or equivalent.
• Experience designing machined, composite, plastic, sheet metal, and wire assemblies.
• Hands‑on building/prototyping experience in miniature robotic systems or similar.
• Experience designing electro‑mechanical systems with thermodynamic constraints.
• Proficient in engineering drawing practices and SolidWorks; MS Office literacy.

Responsibilities

• Designs structural components, electro-mechanical design, payload & ground equipment mechanical design, launching systems and actuators integration, thermal analysis, prototype hardware development, tooling and fixtures design.
• Reads blueprints and schematics; assists with planning and scheduling engineering work.
• Collaborates with engineers to implement procedures, resolve malfunctions, and provide technical information.
• Develops manufacturing drawings and BOMs for components and assemblies.
• Evaluates designs against specifications, feasibility, cost and maintenance requirements.
• Supports design reviews, schedules engineering work, and assists manufacturing & suppliers.
