Job summary

Muon Space is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical direction of spacecraft subsystems from concept through flight, coordinating with structural, thermal, electrical, and systems teams. You will lead design, analysis, build, and test activities, mentor teammates, and ensure timely delivery in a fast-paced, early-stage environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, building, and testing high‑reliability hardware
• B.S. or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
• Proficiency in CAD for medium-to-large assemblies (SolidWorks preferred)
• Mastery of drawings, GD&T, BOMs, FAIs, tolerances, mass budgets
• Experience with ECO/DCO processes and PLM systems
• Experience leading mechanical design for complex electromechanical systems
• Strong documentation skills: build procedures, test plans, design trades, DOEs
• Experience managing external vendors for prototyping

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end mechanical design of spacecraft subsystems from requirements through CAD, build, and verification
• Set design and analysis approach for complex assemblies and defend trade‑offs
• Lead design reviews and review others’ designs and analyses
• Drive integration and test, troubleshoot root cause during build and mission operations
• Collaborate with structural and thermal teams and coordinate across disciplines
• Mentor engineers and raise the team’s technical bar, influence standards across scope
