Job summary

Muon Space, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II for the Spacecraft Structures & Missions team in San Jose, CA. You will own the mechanical execution of missions end‑to‑end, from platform components to payload accommodations, and lead integration, environmental testing, and delivery to launch.

You will collaborate with structural and thermal groups and own design reviews. The role requires 5+ years in mechanical hardware design, SolidWorks proficiency, GD&T knowledge, and strong

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical hardware design, build, and test.
• SolidWorks CAD expertise and GD&T knowledge.
• Experience with basic structural analysis and hand calculations.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical execution of mission end-to-end from requirements through design, build, integration, and environmental test.
• Tailor platform components to mission needs and design mission-specific hardware.
• Create and manage spacecraft mechanical assemblies in SolidWorks including envelopes and interfaces.
• Perform initial structural/thermal sizing and coordinate with analysis teams.
• Produce and release drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and mass/tolerance budgets.
• Support environmental test campaigns and spacecraft integration on the floor.
• Write build procedures and support hardware assembly and ECO/DCO workflows.
• Present work in design reviews (PDR/CDR/MRR) and coordinate across systems.
