Job summary

Muon Space, Inc. is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to own spacecraft mechanisms and components design with a systems mindset. You will define platform hardware, qualify components, and lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on time.

This onsite role requires collaboration with structural, thermal, electrical, and systems groups. You will oversee multi-mission designs on a horizon of six months to over a year, driving architecture, test campaigns, and design reviews while mentoring

Qualifications

• 10+ years in designing high‑reliability hardware.
• Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for large assemblies.
• Mastery of drawings, GD&T, BOMs, FAIs, tolerance budgets, and mass budgets.
• Experience with ECO/DCO processes and PLM systems.
• Experience leading mechanical design for complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience managing external vendors for prototyping and development.
• Strong communication and cross‑functional coordination skills.
• Experience producing ESOW, Technical Specifications, DFMEA, and Test Verification Plans.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical direction from requirements through design, build, test and launch.
• Create and refine designs in SolidWorks and tailor platform components.
• Perform structural, dynamic, and thermal sizing with analysis groups.
• Lead make-vs-buy decisions balancing rapid demos and production scale.
• Lead mechanical reviews (PDR/CDR/MRR) and environmental test campaigns.
• Produce and release drawings, BOMs, tolerances, and assembly procedures.
• Contribute to mechanical standards, tools, and culture across the team.
• Mentor engineers and chair design reviews across multiple missions.
