Job summary

Muon Space, Inc. in San Jose, CA seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a team of mechanical engineers who tailor Muon’s spacecraft platforms to missions.

You will blend management with hands-on design work to deliver flight hardware from concept through environmental test. You’ll mentor engineers, run design reviews, own deliverables, and collaborate with avionics, systems, and thermal teams to optimize performance and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing complex, integrated systems in harsh environments (spacecraft/space), or equivalent.
• 2+ years leading or managing engineering teams.
• Proven track record delivering hardware to the field.
• Ability to balance hands-on engineering with team leadership in a fast-paced setting.
• Mastery of drawings, GD&T, BOMs, FAIs, tolerance and mass budgets.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a mechanical engineering team; plan resourcing and hiring as the team scales.
• Develop early-career engineers through coaching, design feedback, and growth planning.
• Own mechanical deliverables from requirements through design, build, integration, and environmental test.
• Stay hands-on: contribute designs, drawings, and analyses alongside the team.
• Translate customer needs into robust flight hardware and reuse common platform components where possible.
• Set and uphold engineering standards for safety, make vs. buy, materials, PLM, and documentation.
• Run design reviews and test readiness reviews; collaborate on test plans.
• Partner with avionics, systems, thermal, structural, and production teams to optimize designs.
