Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle, WA is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to design, analyze, and release a wide range of ground support equipment and tooling for the Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn teams.

You will collaborate with design, manufacturing, and integration groups, apply ASME Y14.5, drive cradle-to-grave project metrics, and manage vendor activities through fabrication, testing, and commissioning.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years' experience with tooling design, fixtures, or custom machines for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
  • Experience with FEM and structural analysis and hand calculations.
  • CAD-based design experience for modeling and drafting.
  • DFM/DFMA with experience taking products to production.
  • Understanding of GD&T and tolerance/stack-up analysis.
  • Experience with CNC, welding, sheet-metal, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Design production, development, test, integration, and advanced tooling for multiple Blue Origin units.
  • Integrate mechanical design concepts in a fast-paced environment across projects.
  • Interpret and apply design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) for drawings.
  • Handle fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, weldments and environmental chambers.
  • Collaborate with designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration to optimize cradle-to-grave metrics.
  • Manage projects including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, installation, testing, and commissioning.
