Job summary

Blue Origin’s team is building ground mechanical and structural systems for our New Glenn rockets at LC-36. We seek a senior mechanical design engineer to lead large system design, mentor staff, and drive standards from concept to commissioning.

You will apply CAD/FEA, GD&T, and heavy-duty mechanism experience to deliver safe, reliable launch ground support equipment. A 10+ year background in aerospace or similar industries is expected, along with U.S. citizenship or eligible status.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 10+ years experience with design/analysis/construction of large mechanical systems.
• Experience leading mechanical designs from concept through commissioning.
• CAD tools proficiency for mechanical design.
• FEA experience for complex systems.
• GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis expertise.
• Experience with heavy-duty mechanism design (clamps, linkages, quick release).
• Experience with bolted and welded connections and load-bearing joints.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for major mechanical systems, mentor junior staff, drive design standards and best practices.
• Define and drive mechanical design solutions for large mechanical systems/mechanisms.
• Lead, perform, and review FEA and hand-calcs for complex mechanical systems.
• Manage external design and fabrication partners through complete project lifecycle, and oversee equipment fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing & activation.
