Job summary

Blue Origin on Merritt Island, FL, seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of ground mechanical systems for the New Glenn program. You will drive mechanical design solutions, mentor engineers, and oversee partners through fabrication and testing.

The role requires a strong background in large mechanical systems, GD&T, and FEA, with an emphasis on reliability under dynamic loading. On-site work at Cape Canaveral facility supports critical launch ground systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
• 10+ years of experience in design/analysis/construction of large mechanical systems (e.g., aerospace tooling, GSE).
• Experience leading mechanical designs from concept through commissioning.
• CAD tools experience in mechanical design.
• FEA experience for complex systems.
• Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Experience with heavy‑duty mechanism design and bolted/welded joints.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for major mechanical systems and mentor junior staff.
• Define and drive mechanical design solutions for large mechanisms.
• Lead, perform, and review FEA and hand calculations for complex systems.
• Manage external design and fabrication partners through project lifecycle, including fabrication, assembly, testing, and activation.
