Job summary

Teradyne is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the Silicon Photonics group in North Reading, MA. You will lead platform product development, collaborating with Electrical, Systems, and Optical engineers to design state-of-the-art optical instruments for semiconductor test equipment.

You will drive design reviews, develop mechanical solutions, and manage ECN/ECO processes while supporting NPI builds and supplier collaboration. Domestic/international travel up to 20% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; advanced degree a plus.
• 7+ years of experience designing and manufacturing complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Solidworks for 3D CAD modeling and drawings.
• FEA with Solidworks Simulation or Ansys Workbench.
• Solidworks EPDM for CAD data management.
• PLM Software like TeamCenter or WindChill for change management.
• Experience authoring ECN/ECOs.
• Knowledge of basic GD&T standards.
• Ability to generate detailed mechanical drawings.
• Ability to create 2D schematic, cable and harness drawings.
• Ability to select OEM mechanical components from requirements.
• Familiarity with traditional manufacturing and machining methods.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to tackle complex issues with minimal direction.
• Understanding of CE, UL, SEMI, ISO, NFPA and other product design/safety standards.
• Willingness to travel domestically or internationally up to 20%.

Responsibilities

• Lead internal design reviews and oversee technical aspects of assigned projects and identify resource needs.
• Assume leadership in system and sub-system design; define sub-systems and develop product strategies and roadmaps.
• Provide leadership and collaborate with other teams; communicate with management on technical guidance, trade-offs, scheduling and costs.
• Develop detailed mechanical designs using 3D CAD and create 2D fabrication drawings.
• Create ECN/ECO documents and manage engineering changes.
• Build, debug and test prototype designs.
• Assist NPI team with build and debug of customer early access units.
• Collaborate with procurement and supply chain to identify vendors and suppliers.
