Job summary

Teradyne is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the mechanical engineering function for the Silicon Photonics (SiPh) organization in North Reading, MA. You will guide teams from concept to released products, coordinating with systems, optical, software, and manufacturing to deliver robust solutions.

The role requires driving the engineering platform strategy, mentoring engineers, and ensuring quality and schedule adherence in a fast-paced, global environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience leading engineering teams in a managerial or technical leadership role.
• Proven experience bringing complex products from concept through release.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams across multiple sites and time zones.
• Experience with semiconductor systems, optical instrumentation, advanced test equipment, platform-level product development, or high-volume manufacturing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering strategy and execution across the full product lifecycle, from concept and architecture through development, release, and high-volume manufacturing.
• Develop project plans that define scope, phases, resources, costs, schedules, and quality requirements.
• Collaborate with systems, optical, software, compliance, operations, marketing, and customer teams to translate needs into robust technical solutions.
• Build, mentor, and develop a mechanical engineering team through coaching, technical mentorship, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
• Partner with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support quality, availability, manufacturability, and scalability.
• Ensure disciplined design reviews, risk identification, compliance with applicable global standards, and timely resolution of complex technical, schedule, or quality issues.
