Job summary

Teradyne, North Reading, MA, seeks a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the mechanical engineering effort for Silicon Photonics, guiding a multidisciplinary team through concept to release of next-generation optical test platforms powering AI and high-performance computing.

You will coordinate with systems, optical, software, and manufacturing, build a high-performing organization across sites and time zones, and ensure design reviews, risk management, and compliance with global standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years leading engineering teams in a managerial or technical leadership role.
• Proven experience bringing complex products from concept through release.
• Strong background in mechanical system design within complex, multidisciplinary products.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams across multiple sites and time zones.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
• Experience with semiconductor systems, optical instrumentation, advanced test equipment, platform-level product development, or high-volume manufacturing is preferred.
• Familiarity with global compliance standards, including ISO, CE, SEMI, and NFPA, is preferred.
• Project or program management experience in a matrixed environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering strategy and execution across the full product lifecycle, from concept and architecture through development, release, and high-volume manufacturing.
• Develop project plans that define scope, phases, resources, costs, schedules, and quality requirements.
• Collaborate with systems, optical, software, compliance, operations, marketing, and customer teams to translate needs into robust technical solutions.
• Build, mentor, and develop a mechanical engineering team through coaching, technical mentorship, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
• Partner with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support quality, availability, manufacturability, and scalability.
• Ensure disciplined design reviews, risk identification, compliance with applicable global standards, and timely resolution of complex technical, schedule, or quality issues.
