Job summary

Austal Usa, LLC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide expert judgement for the design, development and implementation of complex shipboard systems and overall ship designs in a fast-paced maritime environment.

The role requires 8+ years in shipbuilding, a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, and strong leadership and mentoring abilities to guide Engineers I-III and other team members. Expect to lead technical analyses and ensure conformance to contracts and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
• 8+ years of relevant engineering experience in shipbuilding or 12+ years engineering experience.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Possesses strong leadership skills and ability to mentor employees.
• Able to work independently with limited daily guidance and oversite.

Responsibilities

• Provides expert judgement and analysis for design, development and implementation of engineering products, shipboard systems and ship designs.
• Troubleshoot and solve highly complex technical issues and communicate researched resolutions to management.
• Check designs and drawings for accuracy and adherence to contract requirements.
• Facilitate training, mentoring, and development of other engineers.
• Liaise with engineers, production, customers, regulators and suppliers to ensure on-time completion.
