Job description

Introduction

HART Technologies, Inc. is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our tactical systems development team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD).
The successful candidate should be able to independently complete mechanical design, drawing/modeling support, analysis in support of our Battle Management Systems (BMS) team. A successful candidate will be expected to work in a "hands-on" environment, working closely with the customer and end-users to develop hardware associated with a tactical weapon control system. This position will interface with other engineering functional areas (i.e. electrical engineering, system engineering, software development, system test, configuration management, and safety) and technical personnel from various external organizations to clarify program intent, identify problems, suggest changes, and develop and document final solutions. As part of the development lifecycle process, this position will participate in the installation, integration, and testing of the developed hardware both at NSWCDD and on occasion at other DoD locations working very closely with stakeholders, customers, flight personnel, and end users.
Candidates who are mission-oriented, organized, and enjoy a fast-paced team environment, are encouraged to apply for this unique opportunity.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and integration of mechanical components and electronics enclosures for tactical programs, guaranteeing compliance with mission-critical requirements and military standards (MIL-STD-810, -461, -1344, etc.).
  • Apply Finite-Element Analysis, thermal/structural modeling, and CAD (SolidWorks) to create new designs and improve existing systems, delivering cost-effective, manufacturable, and reliable solutions.
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and material selections that meet ASME, MIL-STD, CE, UL, and other applicable industry/government standards.
  • Oversee qualification testing and verification of enclosures, confirming adherence to environmental, EMI/RFI, and physical protection criteria.
  • Partner with BMS electrical engineers to optimize thermal management and electromagnetic compatibility within each enclosure.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing partners to ensure production aligns with design intent, quality targets, and schedule commitments.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce weight, lower cost, and enhance reliability across complex assemblies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical feedback throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through field support.
Required
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DOD Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • 6+ years in the design and development of electronics enclosures, preferably for military applications.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and FEA/CFD (SolidWorks Simulation, Flow, Nastran, Altair, LS-Dyna, ANSYS, etc.) to substantiate thermal and structural designs.
  • Experience using manufacturing equipment to produce rapid prototypes (e.g. 3D printing, Laser/Waterjet cutting, Milling...etc).
Desired
  • Active DoD Security Clearance.
  • Experience using manufacturing equipment to produce rapid prototypes; 3D printers, Laser Cutters, Waterjet, Milling Machines, Hand Tools, etc.
  • Knowledge of DOD and NATO standards and certification processes.
  • Proficiency in working with rapid development processes.
  • Knowledge of Weapon Systems as well as Command & Control (C2) Systems.
