Job description

HART Technologies, Inc. is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our tactical systems development team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD).

The successful candidate should be able to independently complete mechanical modeling, analysis, and technical drawings with a high degree of accuracy supporting our Battle Management Systems (BMS) team. The candidate will be expected to apply robust mechanical engineering processes in a "hands-on" environment, working closely with the customer and end-users to develop hardware associated with a tactical weapon control system. This position will interface with other engineering functional areas (i.e. electrical engineering, system engineering, software development, system test, configuration management, and safety) and technical personnel from various external organizations to clarify program intent, identify problems, suggest changes, and develop and document final solutions. As part of the development lifecycle process, this position will participate in the installation, integration, and testing of the developed hardware both at NSWCDD and on occasion at other DoD locations working very closely with stakeholders, customers, flight personnel, and end users.

Candidates who are mission-oriented, organized, and enjoy a fast-paced team environment, are encouraged to apply for this unique opportunity.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and integrate electronics enclosures for tactical programs, ensuring compliance with military specifications for environmental protection (e.g., MIL-STD-810), EMI/RFI shielding (e.g., MIL-STD-461), and physical protection (e.g., MIL-STD-1344).
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to analyze thermal and structural characteristics of enclosure designs.
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings and specifications for enclosures using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks) and ensure design compliance with applicable industry and government standards (ASME, MIL-STD, etc.) and select and specify materials for enclosures based on performance requirements, weight limitations, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with BMS electrical engineers to ensure proper thermal management and electromagnetic compatibility within the enclosure.
  • Work with manufacturing partners to ensure enclosures are produced to meet design specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform or oversee qualification testing of enclosures to verify compliance with military standards.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation for enclosures, including design reports, test reports, and manufacturing drawings.
Required
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DOD Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in the design and development of electronics enclosures, preferably for military applications.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and FEA/CFD (SolidWorks Simulation, Flow, Nastran, Altair, LS-Dyna, ANSYS, etc.) in order to structurally and thermally substantiate design.
  • Experience using manufacturing equipment to produce rapid prototypes; 3D printers, Laser Cutters, Waterjet, Milling Machines, Hand Tools, etc.
Desired
  • Active DoD Security Clearance.
  • Knowledge of DOD and NATO standards and certification processes.
  • Proficiency in working with hardware engineering best practices and rapid development processes.
  • Knowledge of Weapon Systems as well as Command & Control (C2) Systems.
Compensation Range
  • Salary - $75k-95k

The compensation range listed above is a good-faith estimate of what the company intends to offer for this role as defined at the time of posting. Actual salary or hourly wage may vary depending on a variety of factors - including the exact duties of the position, the applicant's education, experience and skill set, internal pay equity, prevailing market rates, any relevant collective-bargaining agreements, and applicable legal requirements.
