Job summary

Nightwing is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Springfield, VA to lead design from concept through prototype and production. You will work with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers to deliver practical, innovative solutions for challenging mission programs.

You will contribute to advanced analyses, drawings, and documentation while coordinating hardware fabrication and test cycles. Strong communication, hands-on prototyping, and travel readiness are essential for success in this

Qualifications

• Must hold or be willing to obtain TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
• 2+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience with a bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with an advanced degree.
• Experience with rapid, iterative design and prototyping.
• Hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting prototypes (motors, actuators, sensors).
• Proficient in CAD software for mechanical design/documentation (SolidWorks & Revit).
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Proficient in mechanics of materials, statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
• Willingness to travel (<10%).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers to develop solutions from concept through prototype, testing, and production.
• Produce drawings and coordinate hardware fabrication; author detailed technical procedures.
• Prepare presentations, field reports, cost estimates, and design reviews for diverse audiences.
• Assist Program Manager with technical, cost, and schedule requirements; help shape future task strategies based on customer needs.
