Job summary

Nightwing Intelligence Solutions, LLC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Springfield, VA area to support technology development and mission programs. You will collaborate with mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers to take concepts through prototype development, testing, documentation, and production.

You will contribute to product design, detailed analysis, and drawings, coordinate fabrication, and prepare technical documents and reviews for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Candidate must hold or be willing to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering or related field with a bachelor’s degree, or three (3) years with an advanced degree.
• Product development experience using rapid, iterative design and prototyping methods with frequent integration/test cycles.
• Practical, hands‑on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting prototypes, including motors, actuators, and sensors.
• Experience with CAD software for mechanical design and documentation (SolidWorks and Revit preferred).
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, presentations, and documentation.
• Proficiency in mechanics of materials, statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary, collaborative team environment balancing diverse project tasks and types.
• Working knowledge of common hand and powered tools.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness and ability to travel for temporary assignments (less than 10% travel).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with teams to develop innovative, practical solutions and drive program success.
• Product design, advanced engineering analysis, creating and delivering drawings.
• Coordinate hardware fabrication and author detailed technical procedures.
• Prepare presentations, field reports, cost estimates, and design reviews for diverse audiences.
• Assist the Program Manager with technical, cost, and schedule requirements of current tasks and help shape strategies for future tasks based on customer needs.
