Nightwing in Springfield, VA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team. You will drive design from concept through prototype, testing, documentation, and production, coordinating with mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers.

The role emphasizes hands-on prototyping, CAD work (SolidWorks, Revit), and rigorous technical reviews. Strong communication and ability to guide junior staff are essential for success.

Qualifications

• TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience or 3+ years with advanced degree.
• Hands-on prototype building, testing, and troubleshooting (motors, actuators, sensors).
• Experience with CAD software for mechanical design and documentation (SolidWorks & Revit preferred).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for reports, presentations and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze mechanical components and systems.
• Create and deliver detailed drawings and documentation.
• Coordinate hardware fabrication and testing activities.
• Prepare technical procedures, cost estimates, and design reviews.
• Support program manager with technical, cost, and schedule requirements.
• Coach junior engineers and review their work.
