Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Mechanical Engineer Principal to lead mechanical design basis development for gas, coal, and renewable plant retrofit and self-build projects. The role focuses on turbines, HRSGs, heat exchangers, piping, and structures, aligning with AE and EPC teams to meet performance, reliability, and safety standards.

You will prepare technical specifications, support RFx processes, and provide construction, commissioning, and lifecycle support across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Eight plus years of related engineering experience.
• ABET accreditation preferred for engineering degree.
• Experience with gas/coal/renewables projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design basis for plant equipment (turbines, HRSGs, boilers, pumps).
• Apply advanced knowledge to equipment selection and system integration.
• Review and approve designs, drawings, and calculations with AE/EPC partners.
• Prepare procurement specs and RFx deliverables for self-build proposals.
• Interface with OEMs during RFx and procurement to verify technical compliance.
