Job summary

Salas O’Brien’s Plymouth, Michigan office is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of mechanical systems for power generation buildings, substations, energy storage facilities, data centers, and industrial/utility projects. You’ll work within a multi-discipline team as a lead technical resource for mechanical scope, including steam, piping, and balance‑of‑plant systems.

As Engineer of Record, you’ll oversee calculations, code compliance, and deliverables, mentor junior

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 8–10+ years mechanical design experience with power generation, piping, or process/balance-of-plant systems.
• Active P.E. license in Michigan or reciprocal state (or ability to obtain).
• Strong knowledge of ASME B31.1/B31.3/Section VIII; NFPA; IBC/IMC/IPC.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit; familiarity with plant design tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and analysis for power generation facilities as Engineer of Record.
• Direct design of power piping and balance-of-plant systems.
• Coordinate with electrical, controls, civil, and other disciplines.
• Mentor junior engineers and support QA/QC.
