Job summary

Civil and Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Pittsburgh, PA office.

You will lead mechanical design efforts for complex industrial and manufacturing projects, from concept through completion, collaborating with civil, structural, electrical, and process teams. You will mentor junior engineers, ensure compliance with codes and standards, and contribute to business development while delivering high-quality design solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience with heavy industrial/manufacturing facilities.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Strong knowledge of ANSI, ASME, IBC, ISO, NFPA codes and standards.
• Experience performing mechanical systems design and engineering calculations.
• Proficiency with mechanical engineering design software.
• Demonstrated experience leading project teams and coordinating multidisciplinary efforts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to conduct field investigations and site visits; travel ~10%.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of mechanical engineering solutions for industrial facilities.
• Apply codes, standards, and best practices to designs.
• Perform mechanical and piping system design and calculations; HVAC equipment sizing.
• Develop P&IDs and Block Flow Diagrams; establish design criteria and specs.
• Prepare equipment and system specifications; provide design reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate across civil, structural, electrical, and process teams.
• Manage client meetings, site visits, and project reviews.
