Job summary

Civil and Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Pittsburgh, PA office.

You will lead mechanical design efforts for complex industrial and manufacturing projects, from concept through completion, collaborating with civil, structural, electrical, and process teams. You will mentor junior engineers, ensure compliance with codes and standards, and contribute to business development while delivering high-quality design solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience with heavy industrial/manufacturing facilities.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Strong knowledge of ANSI, ASME, IBC, ISO, NFPA codes and standards.
• Experience performing mechanical systems design and engineering calculations.
• Proficiency with mechanical engineering design software.
• Demonstrated experience leading project teams and coordinating multidisciplinary efforts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to conduct field investigations and site visits; travel ~10%.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader and trusted advisor for mechanical design projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of mechanical engineering solutions for industrial and manufacturing facilities
• Apply extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering codes, standards, and best practices
• Perform mechanical and piping system design
• Complete engineering calculations, including HVAC equipment selection and pipe sizing
• Develop P&IDs and Block Flow Diagrams
• Establish design criteria and technical specifications for projects
• Prepare equipment and system specifications
• Provide quality review and oversight of mechanical designs prepared by team members
• Serve as the primary mechanical engineering contact for project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary design teams
• Mentor and train junior engineers and designers
• Coordinate project requirements with civil, structural, electrical, and process engineering teams
• Develop engineering labor estimates for proposals and project planning
• Participate in client meetings, site visits, and project reviews
