Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, New Product Introduction, to bring laboratory designs into mass production. You will design, commission, and improve machines used in the Stack Forging process, owning projects end-to-end.

The role requires 10+ years of experience with complex industrial machines, a 4-year engineering degree, and hands-on expertise in safety, reliability, and manufacturability. This position generally requires 4 days onsite per week.

Qualifications

• 10+ years industry experience and a 4-year degree in Engineering.
• Experience with design and build of complex industrial machines.
• Background in electro-mechanical systems and/or precision machine design.
• Familiarity with design for manufacturing, including sheet metal, machined and welded parts.
• Exposure to automation systems, control cabinets, PLCs, data acquisition and I/O devices.
• Experience with GD&T, SolidWorks (with PDM), and FMEA.
• Sub-disciplines: fluid and gas handling, motion planning and control, hydraulics, laser cutting, vacuum systems.

Responsibilities

• Clean slate design of machines in Stack Forging manufacturing system (material prep, cutting, inspection, bonding, assembly).
• Run design processes with requirements, specifications, concept generation, concept down-selection, and design reviews.
• Document and communicate design decisions.
• Drive improvement of overall equipment efficiency, tolerances, process stability and reliability.
• Mentor early-in-career engineers.
