Job summary

Marotta Controls in Chaska, MN, seeks a Sr. Mechanical Engineer – Development Engineer to design electric motors, develop, test, and qualify hardware, and support production to meet customer needs.

You will work with a multi-disciplined team, create drawings with GD&T, analyze designs with FEA, and ensure manufacturability from concept through production, including handling non-conforming parts and driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience solving technical problems using a methodical scientific approach.
• Experience in 3D modeling of mechanical components and assemblies preferably CREO.
• Experience with Brushless DC motor design and operation.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis for Structural, Thermal and Dynamic Analysis.
• Possess organizational and task management skills to work concurrent issues in parallel.
• Leadership skills to interface with various other teams and disciplines at the company.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing, casting, milling, turning, grinding, drilling, etc.

Responsibilities

• Design electric motors in collaboration with Electromechanical Design Engineers to meet customer requirements.
• Create and modify drawings with GD&T, document changes and verify BOMs.
• Design cost-effective, easily manufacturable hardware considering tolerances, assembly, materials, and manufacturing methods.
• Disposition non-conforming hardware and correct production/vendor issues.
• Perform failure investigations of designs.
• Create/review and approve processes for assembly, test, and related activities for development and qualification testing.
• Interface with internal and external customers to determine product changes as a company representative.
• Write technical documents for internal and external customers.
• Participate in design reviews (internal and external).
• Support new business pursuits addressing program technical requirements, schedule and costs.
